Oaklands Primary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.

The following extracts are from the London Borough of Ealing’s Code of Conduct for Schools and the school’s Child Protection Policy – both of which are available on request.

There are five main elements to our Child Protection Policy:

• Ensuring we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with our children.
• Raising awareness of child protection issues and equipping children with the skills needed to keep them safe.
• Developing and then implementing procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse.
• Supporting pupils who have been abused in accordance with his/her agreed child protection plan.
• Establishing a safe environment in which children can learn and develop.

We will follow the procedures set out by the Local Authority Child Protection Committee and take account of guidance issued by the Department of Education.

Any concerns or disclosures must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead  (DSL), Ms Packham, Deputy Headteacher.  Oaklands Primary reserves the right to inform parents of the action that is being taken.

We understand that a pupil may make an allegation against a member of staff or visitor and for this reason visitors should take care to ensure they protect themselves by adhering to the School’s Code of Conduct.  If such an allegation is made, the member of staff receiving the allegation will immediately inform the Headteacher.

The Code of Conduct seeks to establish a set of core principles which underpin the concept of public service and which are applicable to anybody who works with or comes into contact with children, regardless of the precise nature of the job they do.

The school expects the work, conduct and integrity of staff, volunteers, governors and visitors to be of the highest standard, since they directly affect the safety and learning and development of the pupils and the success of, and public confidence in, the school.

Prevent Strategy

Oaklands is committed to safeguarding children’s welfare.  As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability and all staff and governors receive training to help them uphold the Prevent duty which was introduced by government in 2015.  All staff uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British Values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
