Oaklands focus - to experience the joy of learning about people from another culture and to develop the skills and knowledge to understand and communicate with them.

French is taught by specialist teacher and native speaker. Ms Osmani is a French national and was a secondary school AST. She has worked to develop her own curriculum overview and lesson plans following the school SOLO plans. Her lessons are interactive and focus on developing confidence and enthusiasm for speaking and communicating in French. This is followed by a development of these skills into reading and writing. We use similar techniques as Read, Write Inc to support the children’s development of reading and writing skills. Each unit has a final product that the children need to achieve and a final “mastery” task that is used to support teacher assessment against the learning objectives of the unit.
