Design and Technology
Oaklands focus – to have the experience, skills and knowledge to design and make products that can be used in our world.
The Oaklands DT curriculum was devised by staff at Oaklands with specialist knowledge of this subject. It follows the Oaklands SOLO planning format and units of work complement the subject matter of other subjects taught in that term.
Each year group will have a project that revises and develops their knowledge of cooking and nutrition and other projects develop their knowledge of textiles, mechanisms or structures. As some projects require specialist knowledge and resources in order to teach them, Oaklands has invested in a specialist DT teacher visiting the school and modelling these projects to teachers. This year these visits have been extended in order to ensure that children have an opportunity to learn on a modelled example and then can take this skill and knowledge and apply it to their own project.
DT is assessed with a grid of assessment statements that children can use to self assess in their workbooks. The final product evaluation is used for a final assessment against these objectives.
