Computing
Oaklands focus – to know how digital technology enhances our world and how to use it to best advantage.
Oaklands uses the 3BM computing curriculum scheme to deliver all aspects of the computing national curriculum. We have worked with Belinda Evans from 3BM Computing to tailor their curriculum to complement the Oaklands curriculum. She also works with teachers to support their delivery of each unit.
It is Oaklands aim to promote digital literacy into the curriculum as a core subject. We are early on in this journey but we are starting to integrate computing into our guided reading curriculum so that children use their internet research skills to add to their knowledge in humanity subjects. We have purchased sets of laptops for Year 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6 in order to improve classroom access to digital technology across the curriculum. We are also using online resources to enhance learning in school and at home in other subjects –
- Bug Club supports reading especially for our EAL learners
- Numbots and TT rockstars supports the development of fluency in maths
- LGFL platforms for other subjects
