Art
Oaklands focus – to celebrate the natural and man made beauty in our world and learn how to create and communicate our ideas visually.
The Oaklands Art curriculum was devised by Helen Kemmet Brooks, a specialist Art teacher, in conjunction with staff at Oaklands. It is designed to complement the units of work in other subjects. There are 2 units of work per year: one 12 week unit and one shorter unit. Each unit follows our Oaklands SOLO format and starts with a stimulus from a renowned artist or artistic work from a cultural tradition. Artistic skills and knowledge are then built up individually until they are used and applied together in a final artistic piece. A variety of artistic media are experienced throughout the curriculum. Art is assessed through review of the final piece produced alongside an assessment grid of learning objectives for pupil self-assessment and teacher assessment.
Helen Kemmet Brooks continues to work with us to review the effectiveness of the curriculum and support art teaching.
