Internet Safety Website

The Know IT All for Parents and Carers presentation highlights the gap that exists between children’s real experience online and adult awareness of these experiences. The presentation contains information about positive ways young people are using different technologies, what the risks are to users and it outlines practical advice in avoiding or minimising risks when using online and mobile technologies. If you have only recently started using the internet and need help with the basics, don’t worry – there is a special section for you called New to Computers. Also, if you haven’t got the time to look at all the material on this CD-ROM, there is a Quick Overview which gives you a summary of the content. This section has been translated into Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Urdu and British Sign Language.

The West London Free School

Alice-Sheppard Fiddle, one of our mums, has asked us to share with the Oaklands community details of the West London Free School. You are invited to the official launch party of the West London Free School Parents Group. It will be at a pub called The Rocket (11-13 Churchfield Road, London W3 6BD) from 7pm - 10pm on Friday, November 20th. We'll be launching the website on the same day. They are making a 12-15 minute "authored" film for Newsnight about our efforts to set up a new secondary school in Acton and they want to film the launch party. If you are interested in knowing more, why not go along? For more details, speak to Alice in the playground.

Oaklands Knit-In Community Event!

Oaklands Knit & Stitch Club are staging a Knit In on Friday 9th October from 2.00pm - 3.30pm in order to raise money for Age Concern. Innocent Smoothies have partnered with Age Concern since 2004 on an innovative campaign called The Big Knit. The project involves older people from Age Concerns around the UK‚ Innocent consumers, Sainsbury's staff and anyone who loves to knit, knitting little woolly hats to place on the top of Innocent Smoothie bottles. The bottles are then sold in Sainsbury's‚ and for every one sold 35p goes to Age Concern to help keep older people warm at winter. Please see Mrs Brady for more details and visit the link on our website. All family, friends and neighbours are welcome to this community event!
