And so it begins... We are delighted that work has started on our Growing Garden, thanks to the support of our PSA, Heathrow Community Trust and Greggs Bakery. Keep an eye on this space as it develops over the coming weeks.
And so it begins ... very exciting developments of the Rocket Club grounds this half term!
Our wonderful Half Marathon Teams – 51 children and 11 adults ran the Half Marathon on behalf of Oaklands and raised a massive £2,284. It’s not too late to sponsor them! Please help us reach our target of £2,500. All monies raised will go towards helping complete our growing garden at the front of our Infant Building. We have installed two wonderful mud kitchens in our Reception and Nursery playgrounds, designed by Infinite Playgrounds and funded by our wonderful parents. Thank you everyone!
Acorn Days are volunteer days when the whole school community comes together to work on the school grounds. As you can see we are busy reshaping and planting our front of school gardens. We held an Acorn Day on Saturday 4th June to tidy up the front of the Infant Building. It was a very busy morning!
Our wonderful volunteer gardening team spent a day with the RHS learning how to develop an edible garden here at Oaklands. It was a great day, even if it was very chilly!
We are delighted to finally open our brand new library. It looks fantastic and will be the envy of all the schools around! It was opened during Reading Week by our author Stephen Davies on Wednesday. There will be an opportunity for each year group to browse the library books on a specific day next week during school and an opportunity for parents to browse with their children between 8.45 and 9 and 3.45 and 4pm. We have another £7,000 of books to come and we will be setting up opportunities for our families to borrow books. We are really excited and we hope you like it. Other exciting reading opportunities were the Readathon, drop everything and read, story telling sessions and BUG CLUB, our new online reading service. I hope everyone enjoyed Oaklands reading week.
Last term we had a Gingerbread house competition. Children designed their own gingerbread houses on paper and a design from each class was chosen to be created. All our winners created their designs in school. Many thanks to Catherine Phipps for organising this competition and making multiple houses to decorate!
